Everything about the modern internet is optimized for video. Feeds autoplay, clips loop, and every platform from TikTok to the tube sites measures success in watch-time. Adult entertainment went the same way years ago, and yet, quietly, stubbornly, the nude photo gallery refuses to die. If anything, it’s aging better than most of what replaced it.
I’d argue that’s not nostalgia. It’s a reaction to what the rest of the internet has become.
The flood
Consider the sheer volume of imagery we’re drowning in. By mid-2023, an analysis by Everypixel Journal estimated that AI models had produced 15 billion images, already more than photographers made in the first 150 years of photography. Barely two years later that number looks quaint: Adobe announced in June 2025 that its Firefly model alone had crossed 24 billion generated assets. And Firefly is the fenced-in, brand-safe one. The open-source models that churn out most AI adult imagery publish no numbers at all, and it shows in the results: same poses, same plastic lighting, same faces that belong to no one.
Meanwhile the platforms that host real content have their own problem: quantity. A tube site or a subscription feed rewards output. Post daily or the algorithm forgets you. The result is an ocean of content where the single well-made thing, one set, shot properly, edited ruthlessly, is nearly impossible to find by scrolling.
This is not a new problem, and the old solution still works. It’s called an editor.
