About PJ Harvey

PJ Harvey (Polly Jean Harvey), born in 1969 in Bridport, Dorset, and raised in the rural village of Corscombe, England, grew up immersed in blues, folk, and rock music, alongside early interests in visual art that shaped her attention to texture, mood, and narrative.

She began her professional career in the late 1980s and emerged in the early 1990s as the leader of the PJ Harvey Trio, quickly gaining attention for a stark, visceral sound that blended blues structures with punk intensity. Her early albums Dry (1992) and Rid of Me (1993) were widely seen as defining statements—raw, confrontational works that challenged expectations around gender, power, and emotional expression in alternative rock.

Rather than consolidating that early success, Harvey repeatedly shifted direction. Albums such as To Bring You My Love (1995) marked a dramatic stylistic turn toward broader instrumentation, gothic atmosphere, and mythic lyricism, while later works like Is This Desire? (1998) and Stories from the City, Stories from the Sea (2000) explored introspection, urban life, and melody with increasing subtlety.

Throughout her career, she maintained close creative relationships, most notably with John Parish, a longtime collaborator whose influence spans decades, and she also worked with and alongside artists such as Nick Cave, with whom she shared a mutual artistic respect rooted in narrative songwriting and emotional extremity.

In her later career, Harvey’s work became increasingly historical, political, and formally experimental. Let England Shake (2011) examined war, memory, and national identity and earned widespread acclaim, followed by The Hope Six Demolition Project (2016), which drew on field research and reportage to interrogate power, displacement, and social fracture.

Her most recent studio album, I Inside the Old Year Dying (2023), marked a striking late-career turn toward sparse, folk-inflected textures and archaic language, emphasizing atmosphere and voice over conventional song structure. Alongside her musical output, Harvey has continued to work in poetry, film scoring, and visual art, reinforcing her identity as a multidisciplinary artist.

Appointed Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in 2013 for services to music, her career is defined not by longevity alone, but by sustained artistic seriousness, reinvention, and resistance to complacency.

Yep, she’s pretty cool. Sings good, writes good, plays good, and smolders with sex appeal.

These photos don't do her justice, but that's okay. I find her hot although I don't usually like very skinny women. She uses her eyes very well and her early music is really raw and sexual.
