About Michela Di Biase

Michela Di Biase, born on 17 October 1980 in Rome, Italy, is a politician and advocate for gender equality. She graduated in History and Preservation of Artistic Heritage from Roma Tre University and later specialized in Family Psychotherapy and Human Nutrition.

Di Biase began her political career with the Democrats of the Left, being elected to the council of Rome’s Municipio VII in 2006, focusing on youth policies and equal opportunities. She was re-elected in 2008 and became the group leader for the Democratic Party. In 2013, she was elected to the Rome City Council, where she chaired the Committee on Culture, Youth Policies, and Work, and was confirmed in 2016 under Mayor Virginia Raggi.

In 2018, she was elected to the Regional Council of Lazio, where she championed initiatives against gender disparity, including the region’s first law promoting STEM education for women and a regulation for gender-sensitive language in government documents. She also supported programs for breast reconstruction after mastectomy and other health initiatives for women.

In 2020, she founded the association F.A.R.E. (Feminist, Environmentalist, Radical, Europeanist), which has hosted figures such as David Sassoli, Elly Schlein, Manuel Agnelli, Paolo Giordano, Alessandro Baricco, and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Lisa Clark. In 2022, she was elected to the Italian Chamber of Deputies.

In addition to her political career, Di Biase is a partner in a consultancy agency dedicated to promoting gender equality in companies. She is married to Dario Franceschini, former Italy’s Minister of Culture, and they have one daughter.
