About Marianna Madia
Maria Anna "Marianna" Madia, born on 5 September 1980 in Rome, Italy, is a politician of the Democratic Party and has been a member of the Italian Chamber of Deputies since 2008. She served as Minister of Public Administration and Simplification from 2014 to 2018 under the Renzi and Gentiloni Cabinets.
Madia comes from a Calabrian family settled in Rome. Her father, Stefano Madia, was a politician, journalist, and actor, and her great-grandfather, Titta Madia, was a lawyer, journalist, and former member of the Italian Chamber of Deputies. She attended the Lycée français Chateaubriand in Rome and earned her degree from the University of Rome La Sapienza, later pursuing a PhD in political science at the IMT Institute for Advanced Studies Lucca.
She began her political career in 2008 when Democratic Party Secretary Walter Veltroni nominated her as a candidate for the Chamber of Deputies; she was elected that year and re-elected in 2013 and 2018.
In June 2013, she married television and film producer Mario Gianani, and they have twins, born in April 2014. Madia is a practising Catholic.
