About Mary Woronov
Mary Woronov is an American actress, writer, and figurative painter. She is primarily known as a cult film star because of her work with Andy Warhol and her roles in Roger Corman's cult films. Woronov has appeared in over 80 movies and on stage at Lincoln Center and off-Broadway productions as well as numerous times in mainstream American TV series, such as Charlie's Angels and Knight Rider. She frequently co-starred with friend Paul Bartel; the pair appeared in 17 films together, often playing a married couple.
While studying sculpture at Cornell University in the early 1960s, Woronov met and befriended artist Gerard Malanga. Malanga was Andy Warhol's assistant, and through him Woronov became a fixture at Warhol's Factory, appearing in many of his films and becoming one of his Superstars. She became a dancer in Warhol's Exploding Plastic Inevitable, the multimedia happening built around performances by the Velvet Underground, with Woronov swinging a whip during the song "Venus In Furs."
Woronov became a prominent actress in cult films in the 1970s, 80s and 90s, starring in such films as Death Race 2000, Rock and Roll High School, Eating Raoul, Chopping Mall, Night of the Comet and The Devil's Rejects.
