Kate Rooney Mara is an American actress and producer born in Bedford, New York, on February 27, 1983. Raised in a prominent family tightly linked to American sports royalty, she discovered her passion for musical theater at age nine after watching a stage production of "Les Misérables." She began performing in youth theater-arts schools and community plays, eventually graduating from Fox Lane High School a year early. She is the second of four children, growing up alongside her older brother Daniel, her younger brother Conor, and her younger sister, the Oscar-nominated actress Rooney Mara. In her romantic life, Mara began dating her "Fantastic Four" co-star, British actor Jamie Bell, in late 2015. The couple announced their marriage on July 17, 2017. Through this marriage, she became a stepmother to Bell's son from a previous relationship. The couple has since expanded their family, welcoming a daughter in May 2019 and a son in November 2022. Mara is also a passionate animal rights advocate and has been a dedicated vegan for many years.
