About Anika Nilles
Anika is a Mannheim, Germany-based drummer, composer, and musical educator. After school, she had a career in social education, which she left to pursue drumming full-time. She earned a degree in popular music from the Popakademie Baden-Württemberg in Mannheim.
She launched her career on YouTube during the early 2010s, and has released three full-length albums to date, all with backing band Nevell: Pikalar (2017), For a Colorful Soul (2020) and False Truth (2025). On 6 October 2025, Anika was announced as the drummer for Rush's 2026 North American mini-tour.
Anika's playing style is distinguished by her strong groove, her finesse in technique, and her unique sound! Her use of the drum set as an expressive instrument rather than just a rhythm keeper allows for some extravagant playing without stealing the focus away from the music.
As of November 2025, Anika has amassed 442,000 followers on Instagram and 265,000 subscribers on her YouTube platform.

A truly wonderful addition to the seminal Canadian rock band Rush, Anika's unique style is going to play well into the amazing world of music pioneers that have carved the way for generations of listeners! I personally won't be able to attend any of their shows, but I am extremely excited to see how they will play out. Having read and seen many interviews by Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson, they too are as excited as we ALL are to give this young, bright and talented woman her chance to try one of THE biggest, and no doubt HARDEST positions in ALL OF MUSIC, EVER!! She's such a humble, respective person and musician who has stated NUMEROUSLY that she isn't trying to emulate or change the style of one of the literal GODS OF ROCK, Neil Peart (which is not only IMPOSSIBLE, but a terrible thing to attempt), but simply stepping in to lend a hand!!
