My wife, and I, were in Time’s Square (NYC) in 2009, when we came across a few people surrounding a piano, near the iconic Billboard (chicken bone split) area where the New Year’s eve ball drops. We waited 20 minutes, to witness Alicia Keys arriving at 2:30-3:00 am. We were in the audience/ background of her “Empire State of Mind,” video shoot (although we weren’t clearly visible). She was about the friendliest/ sweetest celebrity you’ll ever meet.

I was even more bedazzled (at just how small a world we live in) when Derek Jeter made her top single his “at bat” intro song! Talk about random luck/ coincidence! I’ve only been to NYC a handful of times, and during that time, I’ve been on the front page of Reuters (New Years Eve 2011), seen the last season game of the NY Yankee’s debut 2009, new stadium, watched Kansas State play in their first “Pinstripe Bowl” (vs Syracuse), and met the father of a Denver Broncos running back (outside our Brooklyn hotel), when I was wearing my Denver hat, seen the longest running Broadway play, “Cats,” and had my picture taken atop of the Twin Towers (that same year).

It’s really true when they say if you wait around, you’ll see everyone you’ve ever met strolling down Time’s Square Blvd., and that NYC never sleeps. You might image why she (the Big Apple) is my good luck charm!
