About Suzannah Lipscomb
Suzannah is a London, UK-based historian, academic, author, and television broadcaster specializing in the 16th century, especially the Tudors, women’s history, gender, religion, and social history in England and France. She is also known for covering witch trials.
She grew up in Surrey near Hampton Court Palace, which sparked her interest in the Tudors. She attended Nonsuch High School for Girls and Epsom College, then studied at Lincoln and Balliol Colleges, Oxford, earning a double First, an MSt, and a DPhil in 2009 for a thesis on disciplined women in Reformation Languedoc.
Her career includes work as Research Curator at Hampton Court Palace for Historic Royal Palaces around the 500th anniversary of Henry VIII’s accession, lecturer roles at the University of East Anglia and New College of the Humanities, and appointment as Professor of History at the University of Roehampton. She is now Professor Emerita there, a Public Humanities Fellow at the School of Advanced Study University of London, a Senior Member at St Cross College Oxford, and a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society and the Society of Antiquaries. She has been a Trustee Director of the Mary Rose Trust since 2020, chaired the Costa Book Awards in 2020, and chaired the inaugural Women’s Prize for Non-Fiction in 2024.
