About Siouxsie Sioux

Susan Janet Ballion, better known by her stage name Siouxsie Sioux, is an English singer, songwriter, musician and record producer. She came to prominence as the leader and main lyricist of the rock band Siouxsie and the Banshees, who were active from 1976 to 1996. They released 11 studio albums, and had several UK Top 20 singles including "Hong Kong Garden", "Happy House" and "Peek-a-Boo", plus a US Top 25 single in the Billboard Hot 100, with "Kiss Them for Me".

Siouxsie also formed a second group, the Creatures, in 1981. With the Creatures, she released four studio albums and singles such as "Right Now". After disbanding the Creatures in the mid-2000s, she has continued as a solo artist, using just the name Siouxsie, and released the album Mantaray to critical acclaim in 2007.

AllMusic named Siouxsie as "one of the most influential British singers of the rock era". Her songs have been covered by Jeff Buckley ("Killing Time"), Tricky ("Tattoo") and LCD Soundsystem ("Slowdive") and sampled by Massive Attack ("Metal Postcard") and the Weeknd ("Happy House"). In 2011, she was awarded for Outstanding Contribution to Music at the Q Awards and in 2012, she received the Inspiration Award at the Ivor Novello Awards.

Siouxsie is of English, Scottish, and Walloonian French descent. As of January 2025, she has amassed 115 thousand Instagram followers, and 25 thousand followers on X.

My favourite Siouxsie song is her biggest hit single Dear Prudence which reached number 3 in 1983. The song was written by Lennon and McCartney.

Not my personal number one, but a very good choice nonetheless. Personally, I really like ’Israel’ and ’Spellbound’.

I will second "Spellbound," and toss in "Monitor." Special award to "Slowdive" for not only being a great song on its own and also lending its name to one of the best bands of all time.

I almost included Slowdive for that same exact reason haha

It's funny, I've had 'Sugar for the Pill' stuck in my head all day... Gotta respect a band that can take two decades off and still sound just as good as when they left... It's a rarity.

Very good picks: Israel, Spellbound, Monitor

I throw in Night Shift, also from the John McGeoff era

Agreed 100%. She's most certainly the queen of goth rock, which is more or less dominated by male vocalists. Outside of Peter Murphy, I think she's the best of the genre.

Goth chicks are the hottest and yet the coolest.

Also one of the best genres of music. Post-punk as a whole is timeless and great!
