About Silvia Salis
Silvia Salis (born 17 September 1985) is an Italian former hammer thrower, sports executive and politician. She began athletics at a young age and specialized in the hammer throw under coach Valter Superina, winning multiple national junior and under-23 titles before making her senior international debut in 2006.
She represented Italy at major international competitions, including the Olympic Games in Beijing (2008) and London (2012), and achieved notable results such as gold at the Mediterranean Games (2009) and a personal best of 71.93 metres in 2011. Throughout her career, she won numerous national titles and was a regular member of the Italian national team.
After retiring from competition in 2016 due to injury, Salis moved into sports administration, serving with the Fiamme Azzurre and holding roles within the Italian Athletics Federation (FIDAL) and the Italian National Olympic Committee (CONI), where she became Deputy Vice President in 2021.
In 2025, she was elected Mayor of Genoa, marking the beginning of her political career.
