About Joni Mitchell
Joni Mitchell is a Canadian singer-songwriter, musician, producer, and painter whose work helped redefine popular music as a serious literary and artistic form. Born Roberta Joan Anderson in Alberta in 1943, Mitchell emerged from the 1960s folk scene and became known for her poetic lyrics, unusual guitar tunings, and restless movement across folk, pop, rock, and jazz.
Her landmark albums include Blue, Court and Spark, The Hissing of Summer Lawns, and Hejira, and her best-known songs include “Both Sides, Now,” “Big Yellow Taxi,” “Woodstock,” “Chelsea Morning,” and “The Circle Game.” Widely regarded as one of the most influential songwriters of the modern era, Mitchell has received major honors including multiple Grammy Awards, the Kennedy Center Honors, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction, and the Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song.
