Dolly Rebecca Parton (January 19, 1946 – August 25, 2026) was an American musician, actress, philanthropist, and businesswoman. Dubbed the "Queen of Country", she was one of the most-honored female country performers in history. Parton received various accolades, including eleven Grammy Awards, three Emmy Awards, and the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award, along with nominations for two Academy Awards, six Golden Globe Awards, and a Tony Award.

Parton wrote her first song at the age of six, began performing regularly on TV at the age of ten, and made her first recording at the age of 11. She became a professional songwriter at the age of 16 and, after writing hits for other artists, her debut album, Hello, I'm Dolly, was released in 1967, beginning a career spanning 60 years and 50 studio albums.

Parton composed more than 3,000 songs, including "I Will Always Love You" (a two-time U.S. country chart-topper and an international hit for Whitney Houston that sold 40 million copies worldwide), "Jolene", "Coat of Many Colors]]" and "9 to 5". As an actress, she starred in 9 to 5 (1980) and The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas (1982), earning Golden Globe nominations for both, as well as Rhinestone (1984), Steel Magnolias (1989), Straight Talk (1992), and Joyful Noise (2012).

With estimated sales exceeding 100 million records, Parton is one of the best-selling music artists of all time. Her music includes Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA)-certified gold, platinum and multi-platinum awards. Twenty-five of her singles reached number one on the Billboard country music charts, tied with Reba McEntire for the most by a female artist. She had 44 career top-ten country albums, a record for any artist, and 110 career-charted singles over 40 years. Her 49th and final solo studio album, Rockstar (2023), became her highest-charting Billboard 200 album, peaking at number three.

Throughout her career, Parton has been world-renowned for her large breasts. She has often poked fun at herself with quips such as "I would have burned my bra in the 60s, but it would have taken the fire department three days to put it out," or "The reason I have a small waist and small feet is that nothing grows well in the shade." In 1989 when she guest-hosted Saturday Night Live, she participated in a self-deprecating sketch that parodied science fiction exploitation films: an alien race of excessively large-breasted women teased her about the fact that her breasts were comparatively small, "merely the size of melons."

In 1994, she told Vogue magazine that her measurements were 40-20-36. [1] More recently, as a guest on The O'Reilly Factor she told Bill O'Reilly, "I don't know if they [my breasts] are supporting me or I'm supporting them." Parton has reportedly turned down several offers to pose for Playboy magazine and similar publications; however, she jokes that she told Playboy she would pose naked on her 100th birthday. Russ Meyer wanted to make movies about her breasts.

During the 1980's, Parton increased the size her breasts with breast implants because of weight loss. Parton managed to cover her weight loss from the public with her large augmented breasts. In 2002, Parton admitted to having breast implants in an interview with European reporters. In 2005, Parton said that her breasts are heavy and her back can't handle the weight of her chest. Parton also said in an interview that she rests her breasts on bongo stands.

Parton died in Nashville, Tennessee, on August 25, 2026, at age 80. Her death was announced on social media by her nephew Brian Seaver; in his statement he did not mention the cause of death. According to People Magazine, she had been hospitalized four days earlier.

As of August 2026, Dolly has amassed 9.9 million followers on Instagram, 6.5 million followers on TikTok and 1.65 million subscribers on her YouTube platform.
