About Cecilia Sala
Cecilia Sala is an Italian journalist and podcast host known for her reporting on international affairs, war zones, and global politics. Born in Rome on July 26, 1995, she began her career as a reporter for Vice Media before collaborating with Italian television programs on LA7.
She later worked with several major Italian media outlets, including Vanity Fair, L'Espresso, RAI, and Il Foglio, where she joined the editorial staff in 2019. Sala became widely recognized for her in-depth international reporting and interviews from conflict areas and politically sensitive regions.
In 2020, she co-created the true crime podcast Polvere with Chiara Lalli, focusing on the Marta Russo murder case. Since 2022, she has hosted the daily podcast Stories for Chora Media, covering international news, politics, and human stories from around the world.
In December 2024, Sala was arrested in Tehran while reporting in Iran with a valid journalist visa. She was detained in Evin Prison for 21 days before being released in January 2025 following diplomatic negotiations involving Italy, Iran, and the United States. Her detention attracted major international attention and was widely discussed as part of a broader diplomatic dispute between Italy and Iran.
