Aella is a San Francisco-based writer, blogger, escort, porn star, and camgirl. She has stated that she is autistic.
She grew up in Idaho, the oldest of three home-schooled daughters of conservative parents, who were part of a community of fundamentalist Christians. Oh she most definitely is NOT a data scientist; her understanding of stats is mediocre at best, and her studies and surveys are terribly flawed in initial assumptions, methodology, execution, and analysis.

Look, she does casual analysis of fun, interesting topics using surveys, coding, and assessment of data. I’m not saying she’s planning on peer review for publication. You need to relax. Plus, there’s no reason to attack me.

All her analysis is based off of anecdotal experiences or self reported surveys. She also doesn't control for anything and naively reports a bunch of correlations. The problem with these is correlation does not necessarily imply causation. Her sample size consists of the most promiscuous people in US so it's hard to generalize. I suspect there's also survivor bias at play in some of her stats. In one of her posts she used Pearsons correlation between two variables without realizing that pearsons correlation requires the underlying variables to be normally distributed(gaussian). In her case they were not. Besides pearsons correlation only shows linear relationships. In real world we deal with non linear relations. So its just sketchy, sketchy stuff. As someone said "Lies, damned lies, and statistics"

Ok - I got you. You’ve made your point. Yours is definitely a deeper statistical critique than I’d ever expect on a site like this. I’m going to get back to my bottom line based on earlier comments in this thread: 1) Aella was challenged above for comments about her “brains.” Regardless of others’ thoughts, Aella appears to be more than an “idiot’ - a term used by the esteemed ‘caged tiger’. 2) A ‘caged tiger’ has taken it one step further to then trash any of us who challenge his premise when he has no idea who any of us are. And 3) Aella’s analyses, while, as you say, are possibly flawed, uncontrolled, and biased, they’re still casual studies on fun topics attempting to use some form of data analysis and rough stats to make a fun point based on her surveys. It’s not like she’s defending medications that could introduce unreasonable safety risks to patients or whose analysis will be relied on to safely fly people to the moon.

I just finished reading her post on race and penis size. It starts with a transitivity problem. She argues that penis size is correlated with height and height is correlated with race. Then she infers that there must be some sort of correlation between race and penis size. This premise is flawed. Correlation is not transitive like that. Take for example: height is correlated with weight, weight is correlated with waist size, but height is not correlated with waist size. I think the most concerning thing with her is not that her analysis is flawed but the fact that she seems too confident about it to ever doubt it. Her biggest strength imo is not data analysis but the fact that she can get 100k+ people to fill out 5-10 page surveys. I hope she goes to college for some academic rigor because her posts definitely need it. Maybe she needs to collab with academicians on this topic. It would be great if she does this. Her reach combined with someone who has proper tools to design surveys and analyze the data can lead to interesting results.
