Testing requested: This was recently implemented. Please test it and let us know your feedback in the comments section.

Our new photo proposal system is now live. From "Flag This Profile" on any profile page, eligible members can suggest removing a photo, replacing it with a better one, moving a user upload into the main photo section, or swapping two photo positions. Other contributors can review each proposal on the Contribute page and vote to approve or reject it. Approved changes are applied automatically and temporarily protected from further changes.

This implementation is what we came up with after reading multiple image-related ideas. We hope you like it.

Please give it a try and share your feedback. We especially want to hear about confusing steps, missing options, incorrect previews, upload problems, or changes that are not applied as expected.

I’m a little confused by the voting system. Does “Reject” mean “reject the proposed change” or “reject (get rid of) the flagged photo?”

I think you can add a note, to see changes applied you have to CTRL + F5 or clean cache. Because some might open and don't see the changes and wonder why since was approved.

@GeekBoy3: Good idea. We've changed the button texts to make things more clear. Is it clear enough now?

@wpgoar: This is already mentioned in the notification email to the user. I'm not sure if it's worth it to put it under every approved photo change?

I thought just as a little text in general in the section, not every photo.

Also should be "Neutral" only imo. Since you don't have a strong opinion for the change or feel mixed.
If you "don't care", you don't vote at all, and sounds kind of rude.

Great idea if not abused. I think so many people have a full 20 photos and also have m much better options out there for a swap out, too.

Here’s something that caught my eye while I was glancing through recently closed cases. #1244 shows only 11 Reject votes, 34 Neutral, and 17 Approve, and yet its status is “Rejected.” Can someone explain the math to me again?

@GeekBoy3 Ok, I'll explain the current math behind it. Note that it may change as we're still testing the waters with this new system.

It keeps a (hidden) score.
Reject counts for -3
Approve counts for 3
Neutral counts for -1

As soon as the sum of the votes reaches either 25 or -15, it closes automatically.
The rationale for assigning -1 to neutral is that if people have no strong opinion, the proposal isn't convincing enough.

@Pryda , okay, I’m following the math now, but going back to the example of Case 1244, it seems to me that a clear majority of Accepts (17 yeas vs. 11 nays) got overwhelmed by a chorus (34!) of “meh” votes. Perhaps instead of a simple decision based on the math, perhaps there could be a trigger where if the Neutral votes outnumber the Approves & Rejects 𝑐𝑜𝑚𝑏𝑖𝑛𝑒𝑑, the decision could be kicked up to an Admin for a final decision? FYI, I’m pretty sure I would have voted Neutral on 1244 myself. 😊 Thanks again for all of your engagement on this and the many other Suggestions!

If you want to change one of the four main photos to be THE main photo you can't pick it from the "suggest a new main profile photo" option, you can do it by "swap two existing photo positions" I think? If so, aren't these two options duplicates? Can they either be combined, or make it so the other main photos are options for suggested swap into the main spot?

Some other ideas:
1. Add comments to proposals, if people are voting against something, feedback is helpful. Also gives the submitter a chance to provide additional details
2. Give the submitter a cancel button

Don't know if you saw my earlier comment:
If you want to change one of the four main photos to be THE main photo you can't pick it from the "suggest a new main profile photo" option, you can do it by "swap two existing photo positions" I think? If so, aren't these two options duplicates? Can they either be combined, or make it so the other main photos are options for suggested swap into the main spot?

Also, can photo changes be shown in the revision history?

@quazbaz the Suggest is to remove another photo of the main section other than 1. It was made since before if you did a direct swap you would need to wait another month to move it to 1. Pryda probably can writes this better, but basically that option makes a 3 photos change.
