My concern is for abuse. There are already any number of personal attacks in Comments (which are public); how much worse could they get if they were private?

We would always combine it with a blocking system and a reporting feature to avoid attacks.

thanks for the positive msgs guys, also pryda u can do it like u have to send a friend request - then accept that friend request to be able to msg with each other. something like that so u arent forced to wanna communicate if u dont want to cuz forcing people to interact would be not ideal for this idea.
