About Wilma Murto
Wilma Anna Helena Murto (born 11 June 1998) is a Finnish pole vaulter. She won the gold medal at the 2022 European Athletics Championships in Munich with a personal and a Finnish record jump of 4.85 m.
Murto was born in Kuusjoki, and made her international debut at the 2014 World Junior Championships in Athletics at the age of sixteen. On 27 December 2015 she cleared a new best of 4.45 m, which represented a European youth best (under-18s). On 31 January 2016 Murto set a new indoor world junior record (under-20s) in Zweibrücken, where she jumped 4.71 m. The result was also a new Finnish record, beating Minna Nikkanen's previous record by 11 centimetres (4.3 in).
At the 2022 European Athletics Championships in Munich she improved her outdoor best with a remarkable 13 centimetres to 4.85 m, breaking her own Finnish record three times. Murto also won the gold medal at the 2023 European Indoor Championships where she cleared 4.80 m. At the 2023 World Athletics Championships held in Budapest, she won the bronze medal (Katie Moon and Nina Kennedy shared the gold).
Her outdoor record is 4.85 m.
