About Sylvie Lubamba
She was born in Florence to Congolese parents originally from Kinshasa, themselves children of the Francophone middle class. After graduating from the ITC of the Piarist Fathers - Scuole Pie Fiorentine, she worked as a model. In 1992, she was elected Miss Tuscany, thus earning the right to participate in Miss Italy, becoming the first black contestant in the pageant. However, she was later disqualified for posing nude in a photoshoot.
