Stephanie Beatriz Bischoff Alvizuri is an acclaimed American actress and singer born in Neuquén, Argentina, on February 10, 1981. Born to a Colombian father and a Bolivian mother, she immigrated to the United States with her parents at the age of two and was raised in Webster, Texas. She attended Clear Brook High School, where she discovered her passion for performing after taking speech and debate classes. She went on to refine her dramatic craft at Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri, graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theatre Arts in 2002. Following her graduation, she relocated to New York City and spent over a decade working extensively in regional theater and Shakespearean productions before moving to Los Angeles to pursue a screen career. 

Her film and television biography contains some of the most recognizable roles in modern comedy and animation. She made her television debut with a guest spot on the crime drama "The Closer" in 2012, followed by a recurring role as Sonia, the sister of Gloria, on the hit sitcom "Modern Family" from 2013 to 2019. She achieved her massive mainstream breakout by starring as the tough, deadpan Detective Rosa Diaz in the beloved police comedy series "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" from 2013 to 2021. During this time, she made her feature film debut in the acclaimed independent drama "Short Term 12" in 2013. Beatriz later showcased her musical theater roots by starring as Carla in the cinematic adaptation of Lin-Manuel Miranda's musical "In the Heights" in 2021, and she achieved global recognition by voicing the central protagonist Mirabel Madrigal in the Disney animated blockbuster "Encanto" in 2021. Her subsequent major credits include starring as Quiet in the post-apocalyptic action series "Twisted Metal" from 2023 to the present, and providing the voice for Vaggie in the animated musical fantasy series "Hazbin Hotel" from 2024 to the present.

As a primary vocal contributor to the multi-platinum "Encanto" motion picture soundtrack in 2021, Beatriz sang on the historic global phenomenon "We Don't Talk About Bruno," which topped the United States Billboard Hot 100 chart for multiple consecutive weeks. She also sang lead vocals on the certified platinum hit singles "The Family Madrigal" in 2021 and "What Else Can I Do?" in 2021. Personal information regarding her family and personal life centers on her marriage to her longtime partner, actor Brad Hoss, whom she wed in a private ceremony on October 6, 2018. The couple welcomed their daughter, Hazel, in August 2021. Beatriz has been highly open with the public about her identity, having come out as bisexual during her college years, and she actively uses her platform to advocate for authentic queer and Latina representation in media. Due to her childhood training, she also navigates her professional life with severe astigmatism, meaning she is legally blind without her signature glasses.
