Marie-Ségolène Royal (born September 22, 1953 in Dakar, French West Africa, now Senegal) is a French politician.
She took part in the 2007 French presidential election, losing to Nicolas Sarkozy in the second round.
She was the first woman in France's history to reach the second round in a presidential election.
She was the partner of former President of France François Hollande from 1978 until 2007.

I remember her very well. I hope she's still involved in politics. She lost the election to a criminal which is a great shame. I hope that Anne Hidalgo becomes President in 2 years time because France needs her badly. The thought of Le Pen winning sends a chill down my spine. I'm from the UK, but I have tremendous respect for the people of France.
