About Salima Belabbas
Salima Belabbas was born and raised in Brussels to parents of Algerian descent.
She began her academic journey studying law at the Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB) before shifting focus to pursue a Master’s degree in Journalism at the Louvain School of Journalism, part of UCLouvain’s Information & Communication programme
Université catholique de Louvain.
Belabbas started her professional media career with Belga Video and Radio Contact, contributing news flashes on Bel RTL. In 2008, she joined RTL Belgium, where she wrote reports, contributed to RTLinfo.be, and released special segments on Club RTL.
In 2012, she became host of the crime‑doc magazine “Scènes de Crime” on Club RTL. Her profile rose significantly in June 2019 when she was chosen to present the weekend edition of RTL Info at 1 p.m., a milestone which sparked racist and Islamophobic backlash on social media due to her name and background.
Belabbas stayed at the news desk until January 2023, giving a heartfelt on‑air farewell to RTL Info viewers after nearly four years of anchoring the weekend bulletin.
Soon after, in August 2023, she made a strong return to RTL TV as the new host of "Exclusif" (replacing Tatiana Silva) and began co-hosting “C’est pas tous les jours dimanche”, embracing live prime‑time formats and in‑depth reporting.
By September 2024, Belabbas had taken the reins of the documentary series "Images à l’appui", highlighting her interest in human-centered storytelling and immersive journalism.
