Sadie Martinot was an American actress and soprano singer who became a prominent stage celebrity during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Known for her work in dramas, musical comedies, and comic operas, she was highly regarded by critics for her stage presence and vocal ability.

She began her professional stage career at just 15 years old, debuting as Cupid in "Ixion; or, the Man at the Wheel", and she was the first to play Hebe in an American production of the famous Gilbert and Sullivan opera "H.M.S. Pinafore", but her definitive breakthrough came in the title role of the comic opera "Nanon", where her performance solidified her status as a major theatrical soubrette.

Martinot remained active on stages in both America and Europe, until her final performance, as Lady Dover in "Toddles", in 1908.

Her later years were marked by severe mental illness, and she spent the final five years of her life confined to psychiatric care, until she passed away from heart disease, at the St. Lawrence State Hospital in New York, at the age of 61.

Because of her fame, her likeness was frequently featured on Goodwin & Company collectible trade cards, packed with cigarettes and chewing gum, during the 1880s.
