About Reiko Hayama
Profile and Career
Reiko Hayama (born July 13, 1969) is a Japanese actress and television personality from Mizuho Ward, Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture. Managed by Asai Kikaku, she has maintained her famously slender physique throughout her decades-long career, standing 162cm tall with a weight of 45kg and measurements of B81 (D-cup), W56, and H84. She has blood type A.
Entertainment Debut and Musical Career
Hayama’s journey in the spotlight began in elementary school when she joined a children’s theater group. In 1983, she won the "My Idol Award" at a beauty contest hosted by the legendary comedian Tamori. Her official screen debut came at age 15 in the 1984 NHK Educational TV drama Junior High School Student’s Diary, which led to her being scouted by Asai Kikaku and appearing in numerous commercials.
In April 1986, she launched her singing career under the Polydor label. Marketed with the unique catchphrase "The Madonna of the Hawaiian Tribe," she often performed live in traditional muumuus. Despite her charisma, she struggled to find a breakout hit in the oversaturated 1980s idol market. She later moved to Victor in 1990, releasing tracks like "What, Shiteta?" and performed "P-Spot no Yuuwaku," an insert song for the popular late-night show Gilgamesh Night in 1994.
The "Virgo" Phenomenon and Gravure
In 1988, at age 19, Reiko Hayama transitioned into nude modeling, debuting in Otome Club and appearing as the lead feature in Weekly Playboy. In September of that year, she made her debut in the adult video (AV) industry with the landmark title Virgo: The Downy Venus (h.m.p).
The film—centered on a "virgin" theme and beginning with a memorable picnic scene—became an instant sensation and a massive commercial success. While it served as the catalyst for the famous "Virgo" series and influenced a generation of actresses, it remained Reiko Hayama's only AV appearance. She retired from the industry immediately after, focusing instead on mainstream gravure and image videos.
Acting Career
Beginning in 1989, Reiko Hayama shifted her focus toward serious acting. She made her mark in the Toei V-Cinema film Crime Hunter 2: Bullet of Betrayal and earned critical acclaim for her role as a traveling entertainer in the 1991 film Kamigata Kugai Soshi. She also became a fixture in "erotic suspense" cinema, such as the Kankin Tobou (Confinement and Escape) series.
In the mid-1990s, she became a household name as a regular on the late-night variety show Gilgamesh Night, where she hosted the show's more provocative segments. Since the 2000s, her versatility has allowed her to transition into more mature roles in stage plays, television dramas, and films. Notable later works include the 2012 film Tsuma no Koibito (Wife’s Lover) and a guest appearance in the 2018 finale of Keishicho Sousa Ikka Cho (Season 3).
A notable highlight of her career was her role as a regular student on NHK’s Spanish Conversation (2006–2007), where she surprised audiences with her genuine linguistic skills. On stage, she is highly regarded for her acting range, including her 2017 performance as Otose in Oiran no Kubi (The Courtesan’s Head).
Personal Life and Interests
In November 2014, Hayama married an Italian restaurant employee six years her junior. The pair met through a mutual friend at his workplace and married after only a few months of dating. She has described their relationship as highly compatible and peaceful, noting that her husband is deeply supportive of her career.
Known for her "eternal youth," Reiko Hayama retains the innocent charm of her idol days while having developed a sophisticated mature appeal in her 50s. Her diverse interests include tennis, sports cars, visiting ancient temples, cooking, oil painting, and calligraphy. She remains fluent in Spanish.
