About Phyllis Diller

:Phyllis Ada Driver, much better known (in her day) as Phyllis Diller, was an American-born actress and stand-up comedienne with her own inimitable style. She is remembered best for her rather eccentric stage persona, jokes about her husband and family (thus, household life) and a sharp, self-deprecating sense of humor. Also for her perpetually wild hair and clothes and a laugh she freely trotted out onstage, both exaggerated and "giggly." (Actually, if memory serves, it was more of an outright cackle.)

She was hardly anyone's idea of a great looker, including herself, but she turned those very "odd" looks into some great comedic fodder over the years. Eventually, she had extensive plastic surgery and became one of the earliest, and leading, celebrities, to champion such treatments. She was recognized for this service by the industry. (So I guess those of you perpetually stuck in the "real" vs. "fake" argument have a new scapegoat to blame!)

Arguably she was the very first female comic to achieve nationwide fame from household to household. She paved the way for numerous female comics who followed (and who cite her influence), including Joan RIvers, Roseanne Barr, and Ellen DeGeneres (among others).

Ms. Diller had a large gay following, and is considered a gay icon (really, among the first of these). She was 5'1`" and of unrecorded weight, with light blonde hair and green eyes. Her other measurements are not recorded by my STUPID SOURCE that COULDN'T EVEN GET HER BIRTHSIGN RIGHT. June 17th is *always* the sign of GEMINI, doofuses, not of CANCER, which doesn't even happen for another *4 days*! Gaaaaaahhhh. What kind of a spazz doesn't know THAT? SHEESH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(To be continued, possibly, as more jokes occur to me!)
