About Paula Scanlan
Paula Scanlan is an American activist, internet personality, and former colligate swimmer and diver at the University of Pennsylvania (UPenn). She is a Stand with Women Spokeswoman and Advisor at Independent Women’s Forum and Independent Women’s Voice, and New Jersey's Early Vote Action Coordinator.
Scanlan gained national attention when she and then University of Kentucky swimmer Riley Gaines spoke out against her then school, UPenn, decided to allow trans-identifying swimmer Lia Thomas to compete on the women’s team and change in the women’s locker room. This and related happenings led to the indefinite suspension of federal funding for UPenn, and the barring of Thomas from women's competitive swimming.
Scanlan is of Irish and Taiwanese descent.
