Nao Oikawa

About Nao Oikawa

Nao Oikawa is a Japanese former adult video actress and media personality, born on April 21, 1981, in Hiroshima Prefecture. She first rose to prominence as a leading figure in the early 2000s adult video (AV) boom before successfully transitioning into mainstream entertainment. Since then, she has built a diverse career, appearing in everything from tokusatsu superhero series to prestigious NHK Taiga historical dramas.

After graduating from high school, Nao Oikawa moved to Tokyo, where she was scouted on the street at age 19. She made her debut in September 2000 under the major adult film label Uchu Kikaku. Her early career was rocky, marked by the premature termination of her exclusive contract and a total of only five film appearances in her first year. Undeterred, she studied the performances of top actresses in the industry and steadily built momentum, increasing her output through the second half of 2001.

Despite her delicate, innocent appearance, Nao Oikawa gained widespread acclaim for her willingness to tackle high-intensity, physically demanding roles without hesitation. This fearlessness led to a string of hit releases across multiple major labels, quickly establishing her as one of the industry's top stars. In 2004, at the peak of her popularity, she retired from AV to focus entirely on her mainstream media career.

Following her retirement, Nao Oikawa became a trailblazer, helping normalize the term "sexy actress" in Japanese media while becoming a regular fixture on late-night variety shows. Her approachable personality and solid acting capabilities earned her broad appeal, culminating in a rare achievement in the late 2000s: landing roles in all three of Japan’s major tokusatsu franchises—Ultraman, Super Sentai, and Kamen Rider. Her portrayal of Water Pollution Minister Kegalesia in the 2008 series Engine Sentai Go-Onger made her a household name among both children and parents. In 2010, she guest-starred in NHK's Taiga drama Ryomaden, firmly cementing her status as a versatile actress beyond her former AV background.
