Najila Trindade Mendes de Souza is a Brazilian model who gained significant public notoriety in 2019 after filing a police report accusing soccer player Neymar of rape and physical assault. The incident allegedly took place in a hotel room in Paris, France, on May 15 of that year.
The Neymar Case and Aftermath—Case Dismissal: The player consistently denied the allegations. In August 2019, the Public Prosecutor's Office and the São Paulo state courts decided to shelve the investigation due to a lack of conclusive evidence.
Indictment and Acquittal: Following the conclusion of the case, Najila was indicted and prosecuted by the Civil Police for extortion, making a false accusation, and procedural fraud. However, in November 2020, the São Paulo courts acquitted the model and her ex-husband of the criminal charges stemming from the incident.
Where is she now? After intense national and international media exposure during the investigations, Najila stepped completely out of the spotlight. She drastically reduced her public appearances and social media interactions, choosing to lead a low-profile life away from the celebrity press. Najila went back to life as a model, turning down reality show offers and raising her son in Ilhéus, Bahia.
