About Monica Santa Maria
Mónica Santa María (full name Mónica Janette Santa María Smith) was a beloved Peruvian model and television hostess, best remembered as one of the original and most iconic "Dalinas" (presenters) on the hugely popular children's TV show Nubeluz in the early 1990s. Nicknamed "La Dalina Chiquita," she brought joy, energy, and charm to millions of Peruvian kids (and families) with her bright smile, playful style, and heartfelt performances on the program—alongside Almendra Gomelsky and others—making Nubeluz a cultural phenomenon with games, songs, and positive messages.
Born in Miraflores, Lima, she started her career young (appearing on TV from around age 10) and quickly became a favorite for her intelligence, beauty, and natural on-screen presence. Her time on Nubeluz (starting in 1990) cemented her as a symbol of childhood innocence and fun in Peru during that era.
Tragically, at just 21 years old, she passed away on March 13, 1994, in La Molina, Lima, in circumstances that shocked the nation and deeply affected a generation who grew up watching her. Her death impacted the show's legacy and sparked conversations about mental health, fame's pressures, and hidden struggles.
Her memory lives on through fan pages, tributes, archived clips of Nubeluz, and the enduring love from those who remember her light and laughter—she's still celebrated as an unforgettable part of Peruvian TV history.
Rest in peace, Mónica—your joy on Nubeluz, your infectious energy, and the happiness you brought to so many continue to shine bright. 🌈☁️💖 MónicaSantaMaría Nubeluz #LaDalinaChiquita
