About Melissa Francis

Melissa Francis began her career as a child actress. At six months old she appeared in a commercial for Johnson & Johnson shampoo. Her most well-known television role as a child actress was her two seasons as Cassandra Cooper Ingalls on “Little House on the Prairie” (1981-1982). She appeared on several other television shows and in several movies as a child actor. As an adult she would later appear as a news reporter in two different films, “Race to Witch Mountain” (2009) and “The Dictator” (2012).

Melissa graduated from Harvard University in 1995 with a Bachelor’s of Arts degree in economics. She later worked as a reporter for CNBC and CNET. In 2012 she joined Fox Business Network as an anchor. In 2014 she became a recurring co-host on Fox News Channel’s “Outnumbered”. She was also an anchor on FNC’s “Happening Now” newscast.

In late October of 2020 it was reported that Melissa had been let go by FNC. Her contract had expired a year earlier and the network chose not to renew it. Later that year she filed a discrimination lawsuit against FNC, claiming that she was underpaid in comparison to her male colleagues. She reached a settlement with FNC in June of 2022 for the amount of $15 million.

In November of 2012 Melissa wrote a book, “Diary of a Stage Mother’s Daughter: A Memoir”. The book detailed her time as a child actress and her tumultuous relationship with her mother, whom she described as being extremely controlling and overbearing. In April of 2017 her second book, “Lessons From the Prairie”, was published. It was about her time on “Little House on the Prairie” and the lessons that she learned from it.
