About Marina Abramovic
Marina Abramović is a pioneering Serbian conceptual and performance artist who has explored the limits of the body and the mind for over five decades. Often called the "grandmother of performance art," her work focuses on endurance, pain, and the relationship between the performer and the audience.
Abramović began her career in Belgrade in the 1970s, using her body as both a subject and a medium. In a groundbreaking performance at MoMA in 1974, she stood still for six hours, inviting the audience to use 72 objects—including a rose and a loaded gun—on her however they wished. As of 2026, Abramović remains a vital force in the art world.
