The affirmation came with Last Tango in Paris, a film by Bernardo Bertolucci which gave her worldwide fame, making her enter the history of cinema at just 20 years old. It is on this set that he had to film a harsh scene of sexual violence that was destined to become one of the most famous in the history of cinema. Although this scene was foreseen in the script and both actors had been made to sign a contract, it was not however specified that the scene basically consisted of simulated anal intercourse with the use of butter as a lubricant, which in fact it was added to the script almost at the last minute, when Marlon Brando, the film's protagonist, came up with the idea, which was promptly approved by Bertolucci. The actress, years later, in an interview granted to an English newspaper declared that she felt "almost raped" and that she had suffered a strong emotional shock due to the humiliation she had to undergo. Immediately after the success of Last Tango in Paris, Schneider declared her bisexuality to the media.
