Marcella Zoia, widely known as "Chair Girl," is a Brazilian-Canadian woman who gained international notoriety in 2019 for throwing a chair from a 45th-story balcony over a busy Toronto highway.
Early Life and Career
Background: Born in Brazil, she moved to Canada just before ninth grade and lived with her mother in Thornhill, Ontario.
Pre-Notoriety: Before the 2019 incident, she was a dental hygiene student and worked as a bottle service girl.
The "Chair Girl" Incident
In February 2019, a viral video showed Zoia flinging a chair from a high-rise balcony toward the Gardiner Expressway. No injuries occurred, though the chair landed near a woman with a child. She surrendered to police and pleaded guilty to mischief endangering life. In July 2020, she was sentenced to: two years of probation, 150 hours of community service and C$2,000 fine. Her defense cited ADHD, alcohol struggles, and peer pressure.
Life After Sentencing (2020–2026)
Public Perception: Following the incident, she was publicly shamed and removed from a music video by Canadian rapper Drake.
Professional Impact: She lost modeling contracts and was discharged from her college program due to the notoriety.
