About Maida Craigen

Maida Craigen was an American actress and clubwoman who lived in Massachusetts. She was educated in Boston. Her mother was supposedly a once noted literary woman.

Stage roles:
-1885 in Hugh Conway's production of Called Back at Park Theatre in Boston.
-1886 in Dion Boucicault's The Jilt at the Boston Museum.
-1886 in the first production of A.C. Gunter's Prince Karl.
-1888, broadway debut in Ross Neal's Loyal Love, as Donna Leonora at the Fifth Avenue Theater.
-1889 as Jessica in Shakespeare's The Merchant of Venice.
-1889 as Hero in Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing.
-1889 in Brander Matthew's The Silent System.
-1891 in Shakespeare's As You Like It.

-1894, as Juliet in Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, with Frederick Paulding as Romeo. Willa Cather said this of her performance: "No fault can be found; it is great in that it is like no other actress."
-1895 in Maine and Georgia, again alongside Frederick Paulding.

She and Paulding were co-stars in the touring repertory troupe named after her: The Maida Craigen Company.

-1899 in Paul Kester's adaptation of Charles Rice's The Three Musketeers. It was mounted by the Professional Women's League at the Broadway Theatre in New York City.
