About Lee Aaron

Lee is a Vancouver, BC-based rock and jazz singer, songwriter, and producer, often called the “Metal Queen.” She was born in Belleville, Ontario and grew up partly in Brampton, Ontario, where she attended high school.
She began performing young, singing in school musicals from age five and joining a local rock band in her teens. She adopted the stage name Lee Aaron from that early group. Her debut album, The Lee Aaron Project, came out in 1982.
She posed topless for the March 1983 issue of the men’s magazine Oui, and has publicly said she regretted it, felt pressured by her then-manager at age 19, and believed it hurt her musical credibility.
The 1984 album Metal Queen established her hard-rock reputation. She scored major Canadian success in the late 1980s and early 1990s with multi-platinum albums Bodyrock (1989) and Some Girls Do (1991), plus hits such as “Whatcha Do to My Body,” “Hands On,” and “Some Girls Do.”
She has released around 17–18 albums spanning hard rock, pop, heavy metal, and later jazz (including Slick Chick in 2000 and Beautiful Things in 2004). After a family-focused hiatus she returned to rock with albums such as Fire and Gasoline (2016), Radio On!, Elevate (2022), and Tattoo Me (2024).
She has earned about 10 Juno nominations, MuchMusic and Toronto music awards, a star on Brampton’s Arts Walk of Fame, and induction into Canada’s Walk of Fame in 2023. She currently lives in British Columbia, Canada (Vancouver area), with her husband and drummer John Cody. They have two children. She continues to tour and perform.
