About Kate Capshaw
Kate Capshaw is an American actress and former model best known for her role as Willie Scott in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984). Born Kathleen Sue Nail on November 3, 1953, in Fort Worth, Texas, she was raised in Missouri and initially pursued a career in education. After earning a Master of Education degree and teaching special education, Capshaw made a bold move to New York City to pursue acting.
She began her acting career in the early 1980s with roles in soap operas and television films before landing her breakout part opposite Harrison Ford in Steven Spielberg’s second Indiana Jones film. Her performance as the glamorous, comedic nightclub singer marked a sharp contrast to the previous film’s grittier tone and brought her instant fame. During the filming, Capshaw met Spielberg, whom she would later marry in 1991 after converting to Judaism.
Though she continued acting throughout the 1980s and '90s in films like Dreamscape, SpaceCamp, and Just Cause, Capshaw gradually stepped away from acting to focus on family life and philanthropic work. She is the mother of seven children, including actress Jessica Capshaw from a previous marriage, and several adopted children with Spielberg.
Capshaw has also been involved in various humanitarian and arts initiatives, including producing and supporting efforts focused on education, child welfare, and social justice. Though no longer active in front of the camera, her legacy in pop culture—especially her role in the Indiana Jones franchise—and her contributions behind the scenes remain widely respected.
