Kaitlan is a Washington, DC-based journalist and television anchor best known for her work at CNN. A native of Prattville, Alabama, she grew up in an apolitical household as one of five siblings. She initially enrolled at the University of Alabama as a chemistry major, following in her older sister's footsteps, but soon switched to journalism and political science, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 2014.
After college, Kaitlan moved to Washington, D.C., and began her career with an internship at The Daily Caller, a conservative news website co-founded by Tucker Carlson. She started in entertainment reporting before being promoted to White House correspondent in early 2017, covering the beginning of the first Trump administration and the 2016 election. Her sharp reporting caught the attention of CNN, which hired her in July 2017 as part of its White House team. At CNN, she quickly rose through the ranks, serving as a key correspondent during the Trump and Biden presidencies.
In January 2021, Kaitlan was promoted to CNN’s chief White House correspondent at age 28, becoming one of the youngest to hold the role at a major network. She later co-anchored CNN This Morning starting in 2022 and has hosted her own primetime show, The Source with Kaitlan Collins, since July 2023 at 9 p.m. ET. She resumed chief White House correspondent duties for the second Trump presidency while continuing her anchoring role. Kaitlan has earned recognition on lists such as Forbes’ 30 Under 30, TIME100 Next, and Mediaite’s Most Influential in News Media. Known for her assertive questioning style, she has moderated high-profile events like CNN’s 2023 Republican presidential town hall with Donald Trump.
