Jenna Elfman is an American actress, dancer, and producer born as Jennifer Mary Butala in Los Angeles, California, on September 30, 1971. Raised in a creative household as the daughter of an aircraft executive, she trained rigorously as a classical ballerina from the age of five. She attended the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts and later enrolled at California State University, Northridge. However, she chose to leave higher education after less than two semesters to pursue a full-time career in entertainment, initially finding work as a professional music video dancer before training at the Beverly Hills Playhouse. 

Her film and television biography outlines a prominent career rooted in broadcast comedy and major cable dramas. She began her journey appearing in music videos for bands like Depeche Mode and Anthrax before landing her first major television role in the short-lived sitcom "Townies" in 1996. Elfman achieved massive global recognition and a baseline of mainstream fame when she was cast as the free-spirited Dharma Montgomery in the hit ABC sitcom "Dharma & Greg," which ran from 1997 to 2002. More recently, she recurred as FBI Director Edie Reynolds in the crime drama series "Will Trent" in 2024, played a prominent role in the thriller series "Dark Winds" in 2024, and joined Tim Allen's ABC comedy series "Shifting Gears" from 2024 to 2026, playing the spirited neighborhood choreographer Eve Drake. She also signed on to headline the Fox drama series "The Interrogator" in 2026. 

Personal information regarding her family highlights her marriage to fellow actor Bodhi Elfman, whom she met at a commercial audition in 1991 and married on February 18, 1995. Through her marriage, she became the daughter-in-law of director Richard Elfman and the niece-in-law of legendary film composer Danny Elfman. The couple shares two sons, Story Elias born in 2007 and Easton Quinn Monroe born in 2010. Outside of her acting work, Elfman is a classically trained percussionist, an active philanthropist, and an outspoken member of the Church of Scientology.
