Samantha Schimmel was raised in Queens, New York, by parents with a history in law enforcement. She attended a private Catholic school and went to high school in Queens and in Long Island, New York, where her biological father was staying at the time. Her father is of German, Italian and Irish descent. Her mother, who was from Guyana, is Muslim. She has stated that she considers herself "culturally Muslim", despite online harassment from Muslims over her work. She has described herself as multiracial, half-Indian and Indo-Caribbean, and has stated that she is not Latina.
Janice Griffith entered the adult industry in 2013, after she had just turned eighteen, intending to do a single scene with James Dean. She stayed in the industry because of the pay and because it involves sex, which she has stated that she loves.
In April 2014, she was featured in a Hustler magazine photoshoot with Dan Bilzerian in which he threw her off the roof of a house toward a pool. She fell short of the pool, hit the edge and broke her foot. She asked Bilzerian for $85,000 for her injuries, which was rejected. In December 2014, she filed a lawsuit against Hustler and Bilzerian. Bilzerian's attorney responded that she was under contract with Hustler for the event, that Hustler had hired Bilzerian, and that Bilzerian was not at fault. In January 2015, Hustler's attorney claimed that the toss was an "act of God" and stated that the publisher was not at fault for her injuries.
In 2017, she and several other individuals founded SpankChain, a blockchain-based website and online payment system offering payment solutions to sex workers in the adult industry. She has posed for 304 covers, 103 photosets and 201 videos.
