About Gabrielle Richardson
Gabrielle Richardson is an American model, curator, artist and cultural organizer whose career grew out of the intersection of fashion, internet culture and contemporary art. Raised between Massachusetts, Pennsylvania and New York, she began making and posting her own photographs as a teenager rather than following the traditional agency route. Those self-produced images attracted attention online, particularly on Tumblr, and helped connect her with photographers and artists including Petra Collins.
Richardson's modeling career developed organically from those early collaborations. She went on to work with major fashion and beauty names including Gucci, Prada, Marc Jacobs, Rare Beauty and Victoria's Secret, while appearing in editorials and runway shows across the industry. Her distinctive features, natural curls and willingness to experiment with style made her recognizable in a fashion landscape increasingly interested in individuality rather than conventional model uniformity.
Art has always been as important to Richardson as modeling. While still young, she became involved with the Art Hoe Collective, a platform created to give greater visibility to queer artists and artists of color. She later founded the Brown Girl Butterfly Project, an initiative focused on wellness and support for Black and brown femmes. Richardson has repeatedly described modeling as another form of creative expression rather than simply posing for clothes or photographs.
That interest in art eventually led her into gallery work. Richardson co-founded Ward Gallery in New York with writer and curator Saam Niami, creating a space devoted particularly to emerging and underrepresented artists. The original Chinatown gallery later evolved into a more nomadic project, allowing Richardson to move increasingly between the roles of model, curator and cultural producer.
Her social-media presence has been central to that career from the beginning. Richardson was effectively discovered through the images she created and shared online, long before the term βinfluencerβ became standard fashion-industry language. Instagram later became another showcase for her modeling, art, beauty looks and personal style, helping her maintain an audience outside the traditional magazine and agency system.
In June 2026, Richardson was selected as Playboy's Miss June and Playmate of the Month, photographed by Shaniqwa Jarvis. Rather than treating the shoot as a conventional glamour pictorial, Richardson and Jarvis approached it through the language of art history and portraiture. Playboy emphasized the connection between the photographs and Richardson's years of studying, making and curating art, presenting her body as both the subject of the image and something she had creative control over.
The feature also gave Richardson room to discuss the complicated history surrounding images of Black women, including the tendency for Black female bodies to be oversexualized or viewed through stereotypes. That made her Playboy appearance unusually connected to the rest of her career: the sensuality of the pictorial was intentional, but so was her interest in who controls the image, who looks at it and how it fits into a larger artistic tradition.
Richardson has continued to resist being defined by a single profession. Modeling gave her visibility, but her work as a curator and community organizer has become just as important to her public identity. Her appeal comes partly from that tensionβshe can move comfortably between high-fashion campaigns, provocative photography and a contemporary art gallery while treating each as part of the same creative life.
