About Florentina Iusco
Florentina Costina Iusco (neé Marincu) is a Romanian track and field athlete and bobsledder. She primarily competes in the long jump, but has occasionally competed in the triple jump and 60-meter sprint at both the national and intetnational levels. Iusco is often featured in YouTube clip channels of women's track and field events due to her intensity and impressive thighs and glutes.
Iusco grew up in Deva, Romania, a city famous for producing elite gymnasts. After growing too tall to compete at an elite level in gymnastics, Iusco transitioned to track and field where she quickly gained prominence in the long jump and triple jump at national and international youth conpetitions. At the age of 17, she won gold medals in both the long jump and triple jump at the 2013 World Youth Championships in Athletics, becoming only the second athlete to do so. She followed this feat with her first, and to date, only senior-level podium finish in international competition by winning the bronze medal in the long jump at the 2015 European Indoor Athletics Championships.
After her success at the 2015 European Indoor Athletics Championships, Iusco would go on a four-year hiatus from senior-level international competition. During this break, she gave birth to a child, attended university, and pursued a brief career in bobsleigh, competing as the brakeswoman for Romanian pilots Adela Constantin and Andreea Grecu.
Iusco made her international track and field return with a bronze medal in the long jump at the 2019 Universiade. She returned to senior-level competition later that year with a disappointing 29th-place finish in the long jump at the 2019 World Championships in Athletics. Iusco continued to compete in senior-level international competitions, including the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, but she has yet to regain her pre-hiatus form, having failed to make a senior-level international podium since her return. In February 2024, the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) banned Iusco from international competition for two years after she tested positive for furosemide, a diuretic drug used to the mask the presence of other performance enhancing drugs in urine tests.
