About Ayanna Pressley
Ayanna Pressley is a American far-left politician and activist who serves as the U.S. Representative for Massachusetts’s 7th congressional district. She was born on February 3, 1974, in Chicago, Illinois, and later moved to Boston, Massachusetts. Pressley made history in 2018 when she became the first African American woman elected to Congress from Massachusetts.
Before her election to Congress, Pressley served on the Boston City Council from 2010 to 2018. She is known for her progressive policies and advocacy for issues such as racial justice, women’s rights, healthcare reform, and economic equity. As a member of “The Squad,” a group of progressive Democratic congresswomen, she has been influential in shaping national conversations around these topics.
Pressley’s background includes a strong commitment to community service and activism. She has spoken openly about her experiences with sexual violence and mental health challenges, using her platform to advocate for others facing similar issues.
Throughout her career, Pressley has focused on building coalitions across various communities and advocating for marginalized voices in politics.
