About Assi Iman
Assi Iman, born Assiatou Barry in Guinea, West Africa, is a striking swimwear and beauty model whose roots and resilience have helped shape a vibrant, multifaceted career. The eldest of seven sisters, she was raised in Memphis, Tennessee, and later New York City, where her journey in modeling first took flight.
Driven and academically gifted, Assi earned an Honors scholarship to college and studied International Relations at Mercy College. Yet, with a love for creativity calling louder, she pivoted toward the modeling world—a move that proved both bold and rewarding. Starting at just 17 in New York, she appeared in campaigns for renowned hair brands and worked with a wide range of NYC makeup artists.
She eventually made her way to Los Angeles to pursue modeling full time. Within a year, she landed major collaborations with iconic brands like Fashion Nova and Anastasia Beverly Hills, and featured in a number of music videos—quickly establishing her as a rising force in the fashion and entertainment scene.
But Assi is more than a model—she’s a visionary entrepreneur. She launched her own fashion label, Assi Iman, alongside a hair brand dedicated to premium weaves. Her designs and collections are a reflection of her cultural pride, personal flair, and commitment to uplifting her African heritage through fashion.
Assi is also a proud advocate for Black women and creative independence. She believes in staying true to her identity and has embraced the freedom of freelancing over conforming to traditional agency expectations. And in her own words, “Because of my cultured background, I enjoy displaying my African and Black culture in my work, and I am so proud of this! Sometimes agencies can have models alter their image for work and different clients, but being freelance has given me the freedom to remain true to myself and my own unique look! Keeping my own aesthetic is so valuable to me!”
Empowered by her experiences and driven by a love for motivational speaking, Assi continues to inspire others to chase their passions—while curating a brand centered on authenticity, elegance, and Black women living in luxury.
