Alia Martine Shawkat (born April 18, 1989) is an American actress, director, voiceover artist, and producer. She is known for her roles in The Old Man, Young Hannah Rayburn in the Fox comedy-drama series State of Grace, Mae " Maeby " FΓΌnke in the Fox/Netflix television sitcom Arrested Development (2003β2006; 2013β2019), Dory Sief in the TBS and HBO Max comedy series Search Party (2016β2022), Fiona Forster in the 2013 comedy film The To Do List, and Gertie Michaels in the 2015 horror-comedy film The Final Girls. She has also guest starred as Frances Cleveland, Virginia Hall, Alexander Hamilton on Comedy Central's Drunk History, Bella in the adventure comedy film Pee-weeβs Big Holiday, Diana Riggs in the teen comedy film Prom Wars, Robin in the USA Network romantic comedy series The Starter Wife, Lila in the comedy-drama series Transparent, Mad Madge in the comedy film Damsels in Distress, and Tyler in the comedy-drama film Animals.
Personal life
When not acting, Shawkat enjoys singing, drawing, and painting. She occasionally sings in jazz bars, though she only sings jazz standards; her grandfather taught her many of the songs she knows. At one point, Shawkat attempted to learn welding, hoping to make metal sculptures. She considers it essential for her to pursue different forms of art, stating, "They feed each other. If I didn't have the other ones, I don't think I could just act." Shawkat is bisexual. On November 15, 2023, Shawkat gave birth to her first baby.
